Flood advisory for Riverdale, Bronx County

The National Weather Service is asking residents in the greater New York City area — including Riverdale — to keep an eye out for flooding until sundown Wednesday.

The agency issued an urban and small stream flood advisory for four counties, including Bronx County. Other affected locales include Bergen County, New Jersey, Westchester County and New York County — all until 7:15 p.m.

Thunderstorms have been hitting the area all day, and are expected to continue a bit more into the evening, the weather service said.

An advisory typically means that flooding already is occurring, or is imminent. The advisories are typically issued for flooding that takes place within three hours of excessive rainfall.
