‘Handel’s Messiah’ set for Dec. 10 at Lehman

You can listen to Handel’s Messiah, Radetzky March, a holiday sing-along and more for free at Lehman College and Community Chorus’ annual winter concert.

Michael Spierman, founder/conductor of The Orchestra of The Bronx, will conduct the annual presentation of Handel’s Messiah, joined by The Bronx Opera Chorus, soloists, and guest readers.  Texts are selected from biblical sources by Charles Jennens, and delivered by members of the Bronx Community, including university presidents, political figures, newspaper editors, members of the NYC Dept. of Cultural Affairs, Bronx Council on the Arts, an honor student, a waiter at the popular Bronx restaurant, and more.

The Lehman Symphony Orchestra will perform at the Lehman College Concert Hall at the Lehman Center for the Performing Arts on Sunday, Dec. 10 at 2:30 p.m.

The show will be directed by Lehman College professor Diana Mittler-Battipaglia who will be accompanied by the Lehman Symphony Orchestra. The program will feature Handel’s ‘Messiah Part 1’ and the finale of part 3. Additionally, there will be shorter works by Felix Mendelssohn, Tomás Luis de Victoria, Harry Burleigh, George Handel and seasonal selections.

The program will also feature the “Concerto for Piccolo and String Orchestra” by Antonio Vivaldi, Johaan Strauss’ ‘Radetzky March,’ as well as a sing-along for the audience.

Attendant parking is available for $5. While the event is free, photo ID is still required for entrance onto the Lehman campus, with complimentary tickets being available at the Performing Arts Center Box Office.
