Jane “Janie” Durand Delgado — a mother, wife, friend and lover of life, family and her dogs — died March 7, 2023.

A longtime resident of Van Cortlandt Village, she succumbed to multiple illnesses after a brave struggle at the Montefiore Medical Center.

She was 84.

She is survived by her husband of nearly 50 years, Leo, whom the Rev. David Dyson married the two on Nov. 18, 1978. Additionally, she is survived by five children: Jack Jr., Clare Ann, David, Joey and Angelina. She’s also survived by multiple grandchildren,  sister Ann, sister-in-law Abbie, and her dog Lucy.

Born in Washington, D.C., on July 16, 1939, she was raised in a small fishing village in Mayport Village, Florida. She retired from the Bronx Legal Services after 15 years as a supervisor.

She received CAR-T cell therapy after her second occurrence of non-Hodgkin lymphoma, which gave her four more good years with her family.

She loved her cooking shows every morning while sitting next to her doggies and drinking her coffee, and her old television westerns in the afternoon.

She was a gossip queen, often calling friends and family. She loved to gather with people and have a nice meal. Also, she collected kitchenware and writing recipes was a hobby.

Her funeral and services were held at the Mayport Presbyterian Church on March 17 in Mayport. She was buried at the Beaches Memorial Park in Atlantic Beach, Florida.

In lieu of flowers or remembrances, the family asks for donations be made to the Montefiore Einstein Cancer Center designated to CAR-T Therapy. Call (718) 420-2411 for more information.

Her family had one last message to share with Janie: “We love you always, Mom, and we’ll see each other in heaven.”
