Kingsbridge Unidos still working

To the editor:

Sometimes the most powerful words we can say are the simplest ones, just a handful of syllables and letters: thank you.

Since I started Kingsbridge Unidos in Summer 2020, our work — and the joy we’ve created together as a community — has inspired a deep sense of hope in what’s possible for our beloved northwest Bronx.

What started as a free community-supported agriculture program for the tenants in my grandma’s building has become so much more. We’ve developed bright and beautiful programming for families experiencing homelessness. We’ve distributed vital, multilingual information for folks who’ve traditionally been ignored when they needed help the most. We’ve distributed backpacks and school supplies. Co-hosted an incredibly fun and rewarding basketball tournament for Bronx teens at Lehman College.

And there is still so much more to dream up and fight for.

Ultimately, Kingsbridge Unidos is an experiment that’s required the faith of many to be successful. I want to thank a few folks who have been vital partners for us throughout the years, including Rabbi Barry Dov Katz and the incredible Sisterhood at the Conservative Synagogue Adath Israel of Riverdale. D’Arrigo New York. Rick Feldman at Art for Aid. Selma Raven and Sara Allen of the Friendly Fridge. Haramritjot Singh, Raphy Jacobson, Latanya DeVaughn of Bronx Bound Books. And all of our wonderful volunteers.

Together, we have broken down barriers and found each other in a light that shines brighter and brighter.

This fall, we will launch a diaper and formula drive for families experiencing homelessness, and I can’t wait to work with you all to continue delivering the love and care that binds us together in our beautiful corner of the Bronx.
