LETTER TO THE EDITOR

Let’s keep incumbent Democrats

Posted

To the Editor:

There are two Democratic primary elections this coming June: one is the one everyone is aware of (Presidential) and the other is one the party bosses don’t want the rest of us to know about: For district leaders and state committee man/woman.

I speak as an interested observer, member of (but not speaking on behalf of) the Unity Democratic Club and the many fine Democrats in the northwest Bronx. We have a voice, in fact many voices.

The slate put up by the Unity Democrats include the two incumbents for

District leader :
• Abigail Martin and Ramdat Singh

State Committee:
• One incumbent: Morgan Evers and one familiar face yet to be elected: Aaron Stayman.

These are volunteer positions, positions where the office holders advocate for our corner of the northwest Bronx, the entire corner: Riverdale, Norwood, Woodlawn, Kingsbridge and parts of Wakefield, among others.

Who are these people?

In general it can safely be said they are younger residents of the northwest Bronx, many of whom have chosen our area to raise their families, as in sending their kids to our schools, joining our shuls and churches and playing key roles in the institutions and groups serving our communities.  They already have been, for some time, selflessly giving of themselves for our communities.

They are co-op board presidents, advocating for the buildings here in need of relief from burdensome city regulations; they chair social action committees of their shul or church, advocating to keep our communities on the cutting edge of social progress. They already volunteer for the work they aspire to continue to do in our names, advocating to the powers that be.

What are their “day jobs,” the jobs that pay their bills? Some are social workers, some work for non profits, others teach our kids. (In other words, they are like you and I) They are active every single day in the daily life of and advocating for the people who live and work here in northwest Bronx.

These are people deserving of your votes for the simple reason they are already doing the job-serving our communities here in the northwest Bronx; and they wish to continue to work on our behalf. For that is the office they hold/or aspire to. An office that advocates to the state government, to the local Bronx County Democratic Party  for the people who elected them. That would be us.

Let’s support them in this effort. Let’s keep Abigail Martin, Ramdat Singh (a native of Norwood), Morgan Evers and Aaron Stayman working on behalf of all of us here in the northwest Bronx.
