Marble Hill woman shot, but stable

Police officers of the 50th Precinct responded to a call of a person being shot in the courtyard of 5210 Broadway on Saturday, Oct. 27 at around 9:20 p.m. When they arrived they found a 38-year-old woman with a gunshot wound to the back.

The victim was removed and transported to Presbyterian Allen Hospital in critical condition. A police officer told The Riverdale Press the victim is now in stable condition. No arrests have been made and an investigation remains ongoing.

NYPD seeking perp who touched woman

The New York Police Department is searching for a male who they say is connected to a forcible touching incident that occurred on Oct. 6 in North Riverdale. A 39-year-old woman reported to police that while walking in the vicinity of West 262 Street and Broadway around 10:40 p.m. a male grabbed her by the butt and lifted her up.

The male then fled southbound on Broadway. No injuries were reported according to police. While police have not yet caught the man he was allegedly caught on surveillance camera from within a bus.

The alleged perpetrator is described as a male with medium complexion, about 5-foot-4, last seen wearing a green hat, black shirt, black pants and black sneakers.

Jewish center vandalism assailed

A Jewish center in Norwood was vandalized with the words “Free Palestine” sometime Halloween night. Police say an unidentified individual spray painted the front and side of Sholem Aleichem Cultural Center with black and purple and covered the door in broken eggs.

The vandalism at the center has been condemned by Councilman Eric Dinowitz, Assemblyman Jeffrey Dinowitz, and state Sen. Gustavo Rivera and U.S. Rep. Ritchie Torres. “Antisemitism has skyrocketed since the terrorist attack by Hamas against innocent people in Israel,” Assemblyman Dinowitz stated. “This vandalism is another example of that antisemitism.”

The assemblyman said writing “Free Palestine” on a Jewish institution is an attack against the Jewish community and is anti-Zionism, with antisemitic connotations.

Councilman Dinowitz called the vandalism “abhorrent” and “repugnant” in an interview with Norwood News.

“As the representative of this area, as well as the chair of the Council’s Jewish Caucus, I vehemently condemn such acts, which not only target a Jewish cultural institution but also propagate division and casts a dark shadow over the harmony of our diverse community,” the Councilman told the outlet. “Make no mistake, this vandalism is not at all fighting for any kind of ‘justice,’ nor is it free speech–it’s antisemitism.”

Police do not have a suspect description and the incident has been classified as “criminal mischief” Norwood News reported.
