Motorcycle thief who steals from women is sought in three precincts

Posted

The 50th Precinct is searching for a man who is allegedly connected to five different robberies in the 47th, 50th, and 52nd precincts. All five incidents involve a man on a motorcycle/moped stealing from women 24 to 52.

The first incident occurred late July in the 47th Precinct. While at an intersection, a 32-year-old woman had her purse taken by a man on a motorcycle. He fled with her purse that contained a cell phone, headphones and credit cards. The incident resulted in the woman seeking medical attention at Montefiore Medical Center for minor injuries, police said.

The next two incidents took place within the 50th Precinct. Early last month, while walking on Kingsbridge Terrace and West Kingsbridge Road a 24-year-old woman had her chain snatched off her neck from behind. Again a man on a moped fled the scene.

Just a week later, a 25-year-old woman walking on West 197th Street and Sedgwick Avenue came across a man on a “scooter,” police said. In this instance the woman’s purse containing her cell phone, credit cards and $50 was stolen. Both women separately refused medical attention for their minor injuries, police said.

The subsequent incidents occurred around the same time on Aug. 23. Around 8:30 p.m. a man on a moped robbed the chain on the neck of a 48-year-old woman in the 47th Precinct. Police said around the same time another robbery occurred in the 52nd Precinct. This time the victim was a 52-year-old woman and instead of one chain, two chains were stolen.

Surveillance footage of the alleged robber shows a man dressed in black, wearing somewhat tattered jeans, standing over a black vehicle. Call NYPD’s Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-8477.
