This shop has it all; no, really, every item for the bath is here

Do not be deceived by the name.

The David Allen Bath Shop is more than its title.

A lot more.

It has everything, including the kitchen sink, which brothers Allen and David Fraitag will gladly sell you along with any decorative or plumbing supplies, hardware or accoutrement you might want for the perfect bathroom.

From toilets to shower doors to medicine cabinets to rubber duckies, this is a shop that puts the word “bath” in bathroom.

The store, located at 141 McLean Ave. in Yonkers, about five minutes from the Riverdale city line, prides itself on its incredible selection of products, competitive prices, artistic and mechanical expertise and the fact that it is not a “depot.”

Allen Fraitag, who is quick to tell visitors that they are also standing in a plumbing showroom, points to a sign that defines a “depot” as a “warehouse.”

Allen handles the store and showroom while David specializes in outdoor plumbing.

Further,  this business is not a huge warehouse but a family venture offering personalized service and advice as well seemingly any bathroom item anyone could ever conceive of.

“We give personalized assistance, not like a box store. We have more of a selection because we are a specialty store. People tell me, ‘a lot of the things you have are things I’ve been looking for forever.’”

While bath soaps, wall art, shower curtains, bath robes and loofas are all there, Allen has grander ambitions.

“I want to sell a complete bathroom  to a customer who is fed up with larger, more impersonal box stores. People think we are a bath shop but we’re also a plumbing fixture store with connections to contractors. We work with customers and contractors to put together the ideal bathroom,” Allen said. “When a customer comes in, I want to know  why he or she  came in. I don’t want to help you with just one item, but everything you need.”

This a third generation family business. The original shop, founded by the Fraitag’s grandfather Max in 1919, was located on Rivderdale Avenue and was a plumbing supply store. Allen and David’s father Sidney Fraitag, who studied at the Parsons School of Design, used his creative flair to design and found the bath shop, believed to be the only one of its kind at that time in the Bronx. The business has been at its current location since 1962.

The store has hard-to-find items such as hampers and wall-to-wall carpeting for bathrooms. The Fraitags’ have shipped special toilets to Hawaii and Israel. They carry beautiful faucets and wall hardware made from chrome, brushed nickel and bronze.

If you need lighting fixtures, vanities, waste baskets or basins, look no further than 141 McLean Ave.

The David Allen Bath Shop features high quality brands such as Moen, Kohler, Delta and American Standard.

They also sell specialty bath items for the elderly and disabled such as grab bars, rubber non-slip  mats and appliqués.

“We cater to everyone, high end, middle of the road and economical,” Allen said.

The one bathroom item they don’t carry is toilet paper.

“We used to, but no more,”  Allen said with a smile.
