The General Election is right around the corner on Tuesday, Nov. 3, and New Yorkers will decide on a number of competitive public seats in addition to a lineup of ballot questions. Decisions made by voters on Election Day will have impacts not only right here in Riverdale, but throughout New York City and even down in Washington, D.C.
With this in mind, it is important for voters to solidify their voting plans early, and make sure they are ready to make their voices heard when the time comes.
This week’s opinion poll asked locals whether they plan to vote at their polling site on Election Day, vote early or vote by mail. Respondents were also able to indicate that they do not plan to vote at all, however, no participant in the poll selected that option.
The poll received only nine responses, resulting in a smaller sample size than our previous polls, which received about 20 responses, on average. The graph above shows the breakdown of those nine responses.
Within that smaller pool of respondents, the majority, or 77.8%, shared that they plan to cast their votes early. Reasoning for that decision varied, from simply disliking going to the polling place on Election Day or wanting to lock in their vote as early as possible, to citing plans to volunteer on Election Day. Other respondents said they vote early because they are retired and therefore able to do so, or that this will be their first time voting early because of the importance of the election.
One participant said they plan to vote at their polling place on Election Day, and another said they plan to vote by mail, because they find it easier to do so.
For those who have not yet decided how they will cast their ballots in the quickly approaching election, we at The Riverdale Press encourage you to start thinking about your plans, check your voter registration status and remember that your vote, and your voice, matter.
For more information on voting in the upcoming election, see our informational guide on page A8, and keep up with The Press’ coverage this election season.
There is still time to submit responses to our next opinion poll, which will close at noon on Friday, Oct. 23. As requested by past poll respondents, this week, we are asking residents how they typically get around the area. When running errands or embarking on a morning commute, we want to know if you usually walk, drive, catch a bus or use another method of transportation. There is also an optional area for respondents to share whether they have any concerns, difficulties or other notes when it comes to transportation in the area.
The poll can be accessed here.
Respondents will also have the opportunity to let us know what they would like to see covered or polled next.
Personal information collected in polls is for verification purposes only, and will not be published. Responses missing required information will not be included in the final data. Respondents are limited to one response per person.
For those who do not wish to take the polls, but would still like to submit their opinions or tips, our inboxes at letters@riverdalepress.com and newsroom@riverdalepress.com are always open as well.
