Capt. Filastine Srour is out as 5-0’s commanding officer

Capt. Filastine Srour is no longer the 50th Precinct’s commanding officer, according to the New York Police Department’s Deputy Commissioner, Public Information.

Srour replaced Capt. Charles Girven in January, and previously made history for being the first Arab-American woman to be named a New York Police Department captain. According to sources, she left the post after about seven months.

Despite Srour still being listed as commanding officer on the NYPD’s 50th Precinct page, this has apparently not been the case for about three months, a community affairs officer told The Riverdale Press. While that community affairs officer did name a replacement, a DCPI spokesperson said a new commanding officer has not yet been selected.

The Bronx-born daughter of Palestinian immigrants was raised between the Bronx and a refugee camp in the West Bank.

She joined the NYPD as a police cadet at 18 while completing her bachelor’s in criminology and a master’s in forensic psychology from John Jay College.

She then earned her captain’s status in the 115th Precinct in the summer of 2021.

During this year’s annual National Night Out, the 50th Precinct and Srour were presented with a proclamation on behalf of Mayor Eric Adams and Police Commissioner Eddie Caban.

“Here in the 50th Precinct we have very minimal amount of cops,” Srour said then.

“So we work pretty hard with the number of officers that (we) have and they are working tirelessly day and night to address crime and your community complaints.”

Srour’s exit as C-O comes as a surprise as she was only in charge for less than a year.
