The National Association of Hispanic Journalists (NAHJ) will induct Bronx native David Gonzalez to their Hall of Fame later this month.

Mr. Gonzalez has worked the majority of his three decades in journalism at The New York Times where his responsibilities have included Bronx Bureau chief, the About New York Columnist, Metro Religion Reporter, Central America and Caribbean Bureau chief and Citywide Columnist. He also worked on numerous major projects, including “House Afire,” an award winning three part series on the life and struggles of a small, Latino Pentecostal Church.

In 2011, Mr. Gonzalez was named co-editor of the Times’ Lens Blog, where he writes, assigns and edits daily features and slide shows for an online showcase of visual journalism. The popular blog draws 850,000 monthly visitors. He also writes and shoots a biweekly photo and essay as the Metro Section’s Side Street Columnist.

“His resume would inspire any young journalist to emulate what David has accomplished – from grad school to national Newsweek correspondent to prize-winning reporter and columnist at The Times to editing the Lens Blog, where people of color everywhere from New York City to Latin America find an outlet to represent their perspectives,” said Ernest Sotomayor, who was elected to the NAHJ in 2011 and nominated Mr. Gonzalez for this year’s class.

Mr. Gonzalez is a founding member of Los Seis del Sur, a collective of six Nuyorican photographers who have been documenting the South Bronx since the 1970’s. They recently exhibited their work at the Bronx Documentary Center. The show will now travel to other venues for viewing.

The induction ceremony will take place during the NAHJ Hall of Fame Gala in Anaheim, CA, on Monday, August 26 at 6 p.m.
