LETTER TO THE EDITOR

Disagreement isn't antisemitism

My letter to The Riverdale Press is a response to a single point in Assemblyman Jeffrey Dinowitz’s recent Point of View.

On  May 12, a student-elected CUNY law school student, Fatima Mohammed, gave a commencement speech. Assemblyman Dinowitz accused Fatima Mohammed of using antisemitic rhetoric.

I listened more than once to Ms. Mohammed’s commencement speech on YouTube. Ms. Mohammed thanked CUNY law school for defending its students’ right to speak out against Israeli settler colonialism. She also referred to the indiscriminate bombing of Palestinian children, woman and men.

Ms. Mohammed was opposed to these policies. That does not logically equate to hating Jews and being antisemitic.
