1. Burglar makes off with $16,000 in property, cash

A burglar made off with $8,000 in cash and another $8,000 in personal property after breaking into a 64-year-old man’s apartment, police said. 

The perpetrator reportedly broke into the apartment at 1 Marble Hill Ave. through the bedroom window at about 9 p.m. on Feb. 6. 

Police say the victim was not in the apartment at that time. When he returned, he found his home ransacked and taken for $8,000 in cash, a $5,000 watch, a $3,000 bracelet, an iMac computer and a safe. 

The investigation is ongoing, police say. 


Car-related crimes of the week 

As usual, vehicle-related crimes dominated the 50th precinct, including one car theft, a drunk driving incident and a car break-in. 

2. A car was stolen from in front of its owner’s home on the corner of W. 225th Street and Broadway, according to police. 

The victim, 36, told police she had parked her 2002 BMW there on Feb. 8. She returned the next day to find that someone had stolen her car overnight, police said.  

This case is closed to investigation. 


3. To the north in Spuyten Duyvil, a car was broken into, though just a wallet and some credit cards were missing. 

Police say the victim, 55, parked her car near the intersection of Independence Avenue and Kappock Street at around 10 p.m. on Feb. 10. 

When she came back the next day, he front passenger window of her Toyota Camry had been smashed and someone had taken her wallet, along with driver’s license and credit cards. 

This grand larceny case is open to detectives. 


4. An alleged drunk driver crashed into a park bench near the entrance of Ewen Park last week, police said. 

A 29-year-old woman driving a 2015 Nissan careened off the road at the intersection of W. 231st Street and Riverdale Avenue and into Ewen Park, police said. 

The incident occurred at 5:20 a.m. on Feb. 8, police said. No injuries were reported. When police arrived on scene, they noticed a strong smell of alcohol and arrested the driver.

Police expect her to be charged with driving while intoxicated.
