Homeless man dies after assault

Posted

A homeless man was killed, and another is in custody after a street brawl turned deadly in Kingsbridge last week.

Police say they found Richard Roberts, 52, with multiple stab wounds at West 236th Street and Broadway just after midnight on Friday, June 30, following a 911 call reporting an assault in progress.

Roberts was rushed to New York Presbyterian-Allen Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Other details remain sketchy, but investigators with the New York Police Department say they arrested at the scene a 58-year-old man they are describing as a “person of interest.” That man — Hardy Renell, also homeless — was charged early Friday evening with manslaughter and criminal possession of a weapon.

Kingsbridge homicide arrest made

Police arrested a man June 28 in connection to the fatal shooting in front of a Kingsbridge apartment complex in mid-May.

Arsenio Lopez of Brooklyn has been charged with murder, manslaughter, and two counts of criminal possession of a weapon.

Police from the 50th Precinct received a report of a man shot in front of 3470 Fort Independence St., in the early morning hours of May 17. Authorities arrived to find a man — Bronx 27-year-old Jeremy Valencia — with gunshot wounds to the chest. They took him to Montefiore Medical Center where he later died.

Teen has gold necklace snatched from her neck

Police are looking for a man they say grabbed a necklace right from the neck of a 14-year-old girl as she walked in front of 3900 Waldo Ave.

It happened mid-afternoon on Sunday, June 25. A man walked right behind the teen as she made her way down the sidewalk, and grabbed the back of her gold necklace, pulling it loose.

Police have surveillance of the man they say committed the crime, although they did not offer a description. The girl was only slightly hurt, and didn’t require medical attention.

Two burglars sought by authorities

Police say they have a lead on two men they say burglarized a Spuyten Duyvil commercial establishment last month. Now they just need to find where they are.

The two men reportedly broke into a business at 3580 Netherland Ave., on the evening of May 29 through a window. Once inside, they stole a computer, but not before they were both caught on camera.

Both men are described as having a medium complexion, around 20 to 25 years old, stand about 5-foot-7, and weigh roughly 140 pounds.

BJ’s robbers arrested, charged

A man and a woman were arrested and charged with robbery following an after-hours theft of more than $400 in merchandise at a BJ’s Wholesale Club on West 237th Street on May 30.

When police arrived, they were told a man and a woman had walked into the store while it was closed, removed four televisions from a shelf, and ran off.
