Let’s slow down on center’s sale

As a longtime member of the Van Cortlandt Jewish Center, I must express reservations about the proposed sale to private developer Innovative.

First, I am unclear why the proposed sale price is significantly lower than the appraised value of the property. Second, although the developer has agreed to include a special wing for the synagogue, how long will the synagogue be allowed to remain there?

As a tenant, there is no guarantee of longevity. Should another business make a better offer — or should the developer sell the property — the Jewish center could potentially lose its space.

Third, members should have the opportunity to view the contract before approving it.

These are all things to consider before any contract is signed.
