POLICE BEAT

Medical equipment, Greek passport lifted

Posted

Either there’s a rogue eye doctor on the loose or a thief with a briefcase of medical equipment and no idea what to do with it.

A 55-year-old man parked his car outside a building on the 3800 block of Waldo Avenue the morning of June 10. When he returned the next day, nearly $8,000 of his belongings had been taken from his 2012 Toyota Prius, police said. There was no damage to the vehicle.

Among the missing possessions were a transilluminator, an optomescope, a panoptic adapter, and five indirect lenses. These are, of course, tools of the ophthalmologist on the move. A Greek passport was also stolen, the man told police June 25 when he reported the grand larceny.

The 5-0’s detective squad is investigating the case.

Victoria’s Secret gift card nabbed

What is Victoria’s Secret? One Spuyten Duyvil woman may never know after her car was broken into on the 2500 block of Independence Avenue on June 25.

A $500 Coach purse and a $300 Coach wallet were stolen from the woman’s 2017 Lexus RX 350, according to the police report. The 61-year-old woman’s Mastercard, American Express and Victoria’s Secret gift card were stolen after the rear passenger window of her car was broken.

There was no value listed for the Victoria’s Secret gift card, but police are investigating.

Insurance card all that’s taken

Insurance is expensive. Premiums and deductibles are high. Unfortunately for one thief, stealing someone else’s insurance card isn’t going to help much.

A 76-year-old man parked his 2017 Jeep on the 5400 block of Netherland Avenue on the afternoon of June 28. When he returned two hours later, his rear passenger’s side window was broken, but all that was stolen was his health insurance card, according to police.
