No praise for Trump

I would like to take a minute to thank you, too, former president Trump.

Thank you for using the worst, most violent language I’ve heard from a politician in all my life. Thank you for mocking and bullying women and Black people, and people you disagreed with.

Thank you for terrorizing the citizens of this nation, simply because you could. Thank you for holding constant hate rallies that only amplified your message of division and partisan politics.

Thank you for making the world less safe for my 16-year-old son. Thank you for showing the rest of the world why we truly cannot be great until we reckon with the underlying issues of racism in this country.

Thank you for doing nothing to prevent the raging pandemic that has held us hostage in this country for almost a year. Thank you for inviting a violent racist mob attack on the Capitol.

Thank you for being the worst example of an elected official that I have ever seen. Thank you for giving those of us who love justice and equality an easy way to tell if someone is opposed to those things — all we do is ask if they support you.

But mostly, thank you, former president Trump, for losing the election. I hope it means we never have to thank you for anything else ever again.

With warmest regards, and sincere thanks.
