Robert Halabov, property management guru, was 71

Robert Halabov, who worked in professional property management, passed away on Jan. 10, 2024, Rob passed away at New York Presbyterian Hospital after a brief and unexpected illness. He was 71.

The son of Sam and Marion (Tarter) Halabov, he was born on Oct. 5, 1952 in Brooklyn. He and his parents moved to the Bronx when he was in elementary school and eventually made a permanent home for themselves in Riverdale. Rob met his wife of 47 years, Denise (Saunders) Halabov, while working at the YMHA as camp counselors.

He spent the majority of professional life in residential property management, retiring from Douglas Elliman Real Estate in 2020. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing his favorite course, Van Cortlandt, whenever he had the opportunity. Upon retirement, he worked part time as the morning starter at Vannie, where he would dress in full golf attire (knickers included), and share history about the course and his amazing times playing it.

He is survived by his wife Denise, their daughter Shannon, son-in-law Gary and two wonderful grandchildren, Avery and Drew. In addition to his immediate family, he is survived by his sister-in-law Donna Stanley, Uncle Mortie, Aunt Ricky, cousins Stacy, Alan, Melissa and their children and his son-in-law Gary’s family from Massachusetts, who he and Denise have became very close with and consider family.

Rob is preceded in death by his parents, Sammy and Marion and Denise’s parents, Anthony and Marge.

Arrangements are in the care of Riverdale on Hudson Funeral Home and at Rob’s request, there will be no formal funeral. Denise will host a celebration of life.
