Sad day for the faithful

Demolition of the former Church of the Visitation building and rectory in Kinsgbridge was recently completed, leaving only one building left standing on the campus for now. Excavators and other earth moving tools are prepping the property for a 340-unit affordable housing project planned for the 160 Van Cortlandt Park South site. Tishman Speyer owns 1.3 acres of the site. In addition to the apartments, a school is planned for the adjacent property. The city’s school construction authority plans to build a school on the rest of the site. The financing and plans for the school still have not been finalized. The whole project has been before Community Board 8, but not without controversy. The board has been trying to get straight answers on the environmental impact as well as more details.
