The Dames are unique

I agree that the Bronx is very diverse, but the National Society of Colonial Dames — which operates the Van Cortlandt House Museum — connect us to the past.

Community Board 8’s parks committee chair Debra Travis expressed concern about their membership requirements, but those requirements make them unique members of this community. If they fulfill their educational mission and reach out to the community and preserve a historical site connecting us to the past, I see no reason to reject them.

In fact, rejecting them just because they’re not like the rest of us is wrong.
