We haven't forgotten

(re: “Trader Joe’s could make difference opening store here,” July 11)

The core of the mission of the Kingsbridge Riverdale Van Cortlandt Development Corp., is to support local initiatives aimed at building, enriching, improving and developing our community. The current grassroots campaign to bring a Trader Joe’s to North Riverdale fits perfectly into that mission, and it is something that I — as the executive director of KRVC — fully support.

I was thrilled to see a Point of View written by state Sen. Alessandra Biaggi in the July 11 issue of The Riverdale Press, the May 30 story in the paper as well as the email that circulated around Riverdale in May encouraging community members to request a Trader Joe’s in the Skyview Shopping Center. KRVC helped circulate the email using our extensive platform of email contacts and social networking that reaches tens of thousands of people.

From a community development standpoint, a Trader Joe’s would transform North Riverdale and be a welcomed addition to the North Riverdale Merchants Association, and all the beautification ideas and programs they are working on for the commercial corridors throughout North Riverdale.

KRVC will continue to encourage community members to request a Trader Joe’s, and stands ready to support this initiative however we can.
