All the mothers and children get together in The Female Fight Club offices on Riverdale Avenue Saturday, May 13 to enjoy their Mother’s Day presents. The event included a special Zumba class at St. Margaret of Cortona School’s “Battlefield.” It was all about “celebrating the love and dedication of mothers everywhere,” according to the Fight Club. Following the workout, the mothers were treated to a brunch provided by Plant Candy and the Kiwanis Club of Riverdale. Coach Cat provided a stretching instructor. Other sponsors of the event included The Womb Bus Birthing Place and the school.

Volunteer Duffy Chen, 79, puts gravy on a turkey before serving Thanksgiving lunch at Riverdale YM-YWHA Senior Center on Tuesday. On Saturday Chef Ian Nerwen began this pre work in anticipation of Riverdale YM-YWHA Senior Center lunch in on Tuesday. The menu included Mushroom Barley soup as the started followed by the entrée of turkey with gravy, stuffing, vegetables, cranberry sauce, sweet potato yams – some had chicken or fish and for desserts pumpkin pie with grapes.

Educator Minnie Krakowsky is already decided. “I’m inclined to go with Cohen [for councilman] because the teacher’s union is supporting him,” the longtime educator said. “I think that’s a very important element. I’m not for charter schools.” Ms. Krakowsky laments that teachers seemingly have less influence in deciding the outcomes of city elections. “I’m very distressed that the union has lost a lot of its clout,” she said. Ms. Krakowsky voiced a widespread view in the primaries that Democratic contenders Mr. Cohen and Cliff Stanton differ little on the issues. “I don’t know them that well, but many of them are similar,” she said, referring to Mr. Cohen and Mr. Stanton.
