Gun editorial missed the mark

The letters to the editor criticizing the gun advertisement last week had nothing to do with freedom of speech or silencing anyone’s opinions, as you suggested in your editorial.

You missed the point entirely. This was not a response to a letter or op-ed piece.

Your accepting payment from a company that promotes gun sales was a complete affront to the community you serve. Anyone can respond via a letter the way each of us did, no matter what our opinions are.

You, however, used very poor judgment in what you did.

That’s a big difference from freedom of speech.

The April 13 Riverdale Press editorial supporting gun advertising misses the point.

The whole point of a gun is the threat or use of deadly force.

Guns don’t just silence free speech, they silence lives. To pretend otherwise is dangerous, and shows contempt and disrespect for The Riverdale Press community and those of its members who suffer from gun violence or its effect every day.
